GIDDAY RODNEY
SORRY I HAVN'T GOT THE READIES TO ENABLE PURCHASE BUT I WONDER IF YOU COULD ENLIGHTEN ME A BIT ABOUT ITS HISTORY? I ASK THIS BECAUSE THE COLOUR IS NOT ALL THAT COMMON IN A SPECIAL. MY DAD OWNED ONE THE EXACT SAME COLOUR WHICH HE TRADED IN IN 1972 IN PRISTINE CONDITION. IT HAD VICTORIAN PLATES NOT TASSIE AS IN PHOTO BUT I NOTE YOUR PHONE NUMBER IS MELB.
ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

dear disappionted bloke sorry this is a while coming but i have not really followed this topic much recently. if i upset you with the description of selfish then i wish to apologize. perhaps while i am sitting down eating this crow i will consider the fact that things are not always as they may at first seem. i am not even considering the conversion for my car but i hope we can still be friends .yours sincerely denis

to anybody who might be interested
whilst out driving todat i spotted in a car yard in dandenong vic not one but two fe special sedans.
one is all balck and the other is white with a red roof. this second car also bears the rego FE 056 and is a car i have seen regularly around the glen waverly vic. area.
cant tell you much more except that they look alright in the dark under the street lights.
i have taken down the name and phone number of the yard but not sure of legality of posting[ret?]. if you want to know email me FEHOLDEN@bigpond.com

correct me if i am wrong but isnt michael the bozo who tried to flog the hq parts on this site? and didnt we have some trouble with his attitude then?
if this is the case then why are we still bothering with him? a fair go is a fair go and i feel that maybe if my recollections are correct [i could have gone back to check myself but i had an attack of the micheal57's] then perhaps michael has had his but of course i feel it is not my place to call for any disciplinary action as i have too much respect for ret and his position as moderator.
in finishing my diatribe i would just like to say that i am not so much angry as basically in agreement with ken and a small breach of your own rules ret is in this case i feel justified.
keep up the good work.

ps: i think the 186 is a better motor.

gidday keith
cant remember exact amount but i think it was about $450. i spoke to one of thr techs at perfectune in moorabbin vic [youll have to check in phone book]
i havnt bought the head yet so cant tell you how it will go but it is going onto a 186 from a low mileage ht holden i was given and will be going into a 1958 fe with hr front end & disc brakes coupled to an m20 box and 2.78 diff so should cruise very nicely. ive got all the bits and im nearly finished building the garage so all i have to do is just do it. i also have a gas kit so will be running dual fuel [lpg and ulp].
progress reports will be forthcoming so be patient but stay tuned

hey keith,
i actually got a quote from perfectune for a yella terra "gas head". cost is less than $500 and comes with all the hardened bits to enable you to run on any fuel you like plus all the benefits of the porting and polishing which you get with a yella terra head. this is the way i have chosen to go when the time comes [not too long i hope]
hope this helps

OK HARKO
YOU'VE OPENED THE CAN OF WORMS SO LETS SEE HOW MANY PAGES OF REPLIES WE CAN MANAGE.
FIRSTLY, I LOVE THE LOOK AND THE LINES OF THE FE AND EVEN THE FC TO THE POINT OF NOT WANTING TO TAMPER WITH THEM AT ALL AND CANNOT UNDERSTAND ANYBODY ELSE WANTING TO EITHER ALTHOUGH I DO LIKE THE LOOK OF ALEX'S FC CUSTOM.
HAVING SAID THAT, I AM NOT SURE THAT THERE ARE TOO MANY SPONGE FACTORIES ABLE TO TURN OUT A PRODUCT WHICH HANDELED ANY WORSE THAN THE ORIGINAL SUSPENSION SETUP OR FOR THAT MATTER STOPPED ANY BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL BRAKES. AS FOR THE OLD GREY MOTOR I WOULD HARDLY BE THINKING YOU WOULD FIND ONE UNDER THE BONNET OF A FERRARI.
IT IS WITH ALL THIS IN MIND THAT MY "EFFIE" IS GOING TO BE THE ORIGINAL SLEEPER: HOT MOTOR, DISC BRAKES, TRICKED UP SUSPENSION AND A LOOK AS IF IT WAS ONE OF THE BEST RESTORED EXAMPLES ON THE ROAD.
I HOPE THAT I HAVE BEEN CONTRAVERSIAL ENOUGH TO EXCITE COMMENT FROM BOTH SIDES OF THE ORIGINAL VS MODIFIED FENCE AND AWAIT ALL REPLIES.

GIDDAY AIRCHIEF
I KNOW WHAT YOU ARE SAYING AND I DON'T DISAGREE WITH IT. BUT HAVING SAID THAT WE ARE NOT ALL AS GENEROUS WITH OUR INFORMATION AS OTHERS WOULD LIKE.
IF HE HAS BEEN SWORN TO SECRECEY BY THE OTHER SELFISH BASTARD THEN WE HAVE TO RESPECT THAT WHETHYER WE LIKE IT OR NOT.
DONT BE SO HARD ON HIM AND PERHAPS YOU MAY BE ABLE TO PICK UP SOME MORE INFO ON YOUR STRING RE RACK AND PINION STEERING AS WHAT I HAVE READ THERE HAS BEEN QUITE INFORMATIVE EVEN THOUGH I DON'T ENVISAGE THIS CONVERSION FOR MYSELF.
HOPE YOU DON'T THINK I AM BEING TOO HARSH ON YOU

gidday
just thought i would like to add my bit to ret and ken's advice. they are not joking!!!
a minor straw poll revealed a startling price difference in parts for fe/fc and say hr. this was one of the reasons [apart from ken's advice] which prompted me to modify to all hr underneath [thanks for the parts gt] and a red motor rather than restoring to original for my effie. the car will still look as if it came from the factory but will be easier and cheaper to miantain.
also on the subject of buying, have you checked out the cars for sale section of this forum? ret might have a better idea of what is still available and i havn't looked for a while so i don't currently know what is there but not so long ago there was a very clean looking fc sedan for sale in brisbane. just a thought.
hope this advice is of use to you

good on ya alex, you sir are a champion
sounds like a lot of work with the floor. i remember ken advising some time ago re an ek auto hump [which can be bought new from rod hadfield] do you think this might be a better option for a novice welder or would the custom job be worth the work?
good news about the shifter as i have a standard one.

gidday alex
did you have to use the one tonner stick with the conversion or was the standard shifter good enough?
did you have to weld in a new hump or is there a way of getting around this?
do you have any inside shots to help?
job looks very proffesional and is exactly what i am wanting to do myself. thanks for the photos they will help.
