1  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: FE chev V8 "Aussie Desert Cooler" radiator on: June 14, 2013, 10:01:43 PM
yeah personally, I had an ADC radiator for my FE with 186 and was too thick, would have had to run engine mounts too far back from HR front end. Got original radiator recored elsewhere with better result. Sent adc back for refund.

Hit on the perefect theme I reckon Dean. The sign writer bloke has talent. Suits the car perfectly.

Love the woody panels on the wagon. I find nobody has trouble with the "V" word on this forum. Its only the "F" word which brings threats of banishment.  Grin Grin Wink

Gidday Tenille and like everyone else "welcome to the forum" Grin

First thing you have to do is ask to see the qualifications of all these people who are trying to "advise" you about cost of parts and repairs etc. I quite often find these kind of negative people rarely achieve much with their lives because they are too scared to have a go.

Next of all don't be at all shy about being a novice on this site as none of us was born knowing everything there is to know about fe/fc holdens(except maybe ken ) Grin The only dumb question is the one you should have asked but didn't.

I guess the point I am trying to make is: Life is too short to worry about "what-if" If it gives you some confidence then ask for a volunteer from this forum to inspect the car for you because they will know exactly what to look for and will explain it to you as you go. the worst that can happen is that the car is a lemon in which case you will have saved yourself some trouble or just maybe the car will be everything you want leading to a lifetime of "joy and happiness" Smiley Smiley Either way you will never know unless you have a go.

Hope this has not been too much like war and peace but I find myself with plenty of time on my hands at the moment.  Sad

From the ABC: Rare car to star at Motorclassica:

The opportunity to see a Tucker up close and personal doesn't come along every day. It would certainly get me along to the show if I was in Melbourne...

cheers

8  General / 2012 - Perth - 14th FE-FC Nationals / Travelling West by caravan on: October 30, 2010, 06:35:31 PM
Gidday all,

Since surferboys caravan article is a read only I may as well start a thread here Smiley

I know it is a fair way off yet but I am planning on towing my old Franklin Hunter over to Perth behind my FE.

Are there any plans to book out a caravan park near the venue to accomodate people with a vintage caravan affliction such as myself?

Is there any one else from this side of the continent planning to tow across there? Maybe we could organize a convoy. I will be travelling from Melbourne.

Hope to hear from those interested.

15  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: Disc Brakes on: October 26, 2009, 01:58:33 PM
I ran HT stubs and calipers on HR front end with no alteration to steering rods, grease nipples or anything. Running HT 14x5 rims also. Bolted straight up and worked a treat

16  Technical Board / Modification Help / Re: What rear brakes do I need? on: June 03, 2009, 06:18:53 AM
Gidday Keith

Another thing you will have to consider is that the offset of the HT backing plate is too deep and you will have trouble with putting the drums on. I solved this by using a HZ backing plate which has a shallower offset and required no further mods. everything else is HT.

Thanks for doing that for me Paul.

Top photo is when I backed it out of my mum's garage after 10 years of hibernation. Still stock as a rock and started first crank [with a new battery].

Next two are after aforementioned modifications[apologies for garage, you know how it is Wink]

Next three are basically new drivetrain.

Rust seen on floor was only surface rust and mild steel sheets were put over original, bitumen painted, floor which is completely rust free.

Boot was also bitumenised and rust free.

These were only a few example shots. There are plenty more both before and during "rebuild".

Any questions please don't hesitate. 0428384623

Not 100% sure about grey but red water pump baring has a distinctly "fire bell like" sound to it when it is about to go. Try checking as per FC427 and see how this goes.
