Air Filter help please

Hi All,
Have recently purchased an X2 set up for the new FC and the cleaner has the wrong filter in it. Some rocket scientist has fitted an oval F**d element sitting on a 1/2 inch bed of silastic to make it seal.  >:(
The parts book says it should have a foam filter with a mesh screen, but I'm sure somewhere in the past I have seen a paper type element fitted to these.
Can some please tell me if this is the case and if so, what the element is out of.
