Grey motor - best oil??

What is the best/most suitable brand of engine oil to put into a mild grey motor? Some say use oil similar to when the motor was new, others say use a modern oil with additives. Any  favourites?

 I'm using Penrite HPR50 in my stock grey motor. I'm happy with it!
